The concept of 33 Koti devata in Hinduism.

Do We (Hindus) really have 33 Crore Gods and Goddesses?




33 Crore Gods’ is a highly misinterpreted fact. The term ‘trayastrimsati koti’ mentioned in Atharva Veda, Yajur Veda, and Satapatha-brahmana, was misunderstood as 33 Crores.

The term ‘koti’ in Sanskrit has two meaning, one is ‘Supreme types’ and the other is Crore. 

The term ‘trayastrimsati koti’ does not mean the number 'thirty-three crore'. Here koti means 'supreme', pre-eminent, excellent, that is, the 33 'supreme' devta. 

These Gods are separated in the following pattern : 12 + 11 + 8 + 2.

12 is the number of Adityas, 11 are the number of Rudras, 8 is the number of Vasu and 2 are the Ashwini Kumar..

Why hanuman ji is called “BAJRANGBALI”?

एक बार हनुमान जी ने माता सीता को सिंदूर लगाते देखा तो उनसे पूछा की आप सिंदूर क्यों लगाती हैं ? तो इसका जवाब देते हुए माता सीता ने बताया की वे अपने पति श्री राम की लंबी उम्र और अच्छे स्वास्थ्य के लिये ये सिंदूर लगाती हैं.   उन्होंने हनुमान जी को बताया की धर्म के अनुसार जो सुहागिन स्त्री अपनी माँग में सिंदूर लगाती है उसके पति की उम्र लंबी होती है और स्वास्थ्य अच्छा रहता है. माता सीता की बात सुनकर बजरंगबली जी को ख्याल आया की जब इतना सा सिंदूर लगाने से भगवान राम को इतना लाभ मिलता है तो पूरे शरीर में सिंदूर लगाने से भगवान राम अमर हो जाएँगे. इसीलिये वे “जय श्री राम” बोलते हुए अपने पूरे शरीर में सिंदूर लगा लेते हैं. जब श्री राम इस अवस्था में हनुमान जी को देखते हैं तो वे उनसे इसका कारण पूछते हैं तब हनुमान जी माता सीता की सारी बात भगवान राम को बता देते हैं। यह बात जानकर श्री राम हनुमान जी की भक्ति से बहुत प्रसन्न होते हैं और उन्हें आशीर्वाद देते हैं की आपको आज से बजरंगबली के नाम से जाना जायेगा, बजरंगबली में “बजरंग” का अर्थ “केसरी रंग” से है और “बलि” का अर्थ “शक्तिशाली” से है, इस प्रकार...
